OVERVIEW
WHAT WE DO
Demand charges — the portion of your utility bill based on peak consumption in a 15-minute interval — are often the largest and least-understood component of a commercial facility's energy cost. A single monthly peak determines the demand charge for the entire billing period. Lightning Mobile Electric installs monitoring, control, and automation systems that give facility managers the data and the tools to reduce that peak — and the recurring monthly cost that follows it. We serve industrial, commercial, and retail facilities across the Intermountain West.
CAPABILITIES
SCOPE OF SERVICE
POWER MONITORING & SUB-METERING
Revenue-grade power meters and current transformers installed at the service entrance, feeder level, or individual equipment circuits give facility managers accurate consumption data organized by department, process, or system. Sub-metering enables cost allocation across tenants or cost centers, identifies energy waste by circuit, and provides the baseline data required to measure the actual savings from efficiency improvements.
- • Revenue-grade service entrance metering
- • Sub-metering by floor, department, or tenant
- • Equipment-level current transformer installation
- • Real-time energy dashboard configuration
- • Historical data logging and trending
- • Interval data export for utility rebate documentation
DEMAND CONTROL & LOAD SHEDDING
Automated demand control systems monitor consumption in real time and shed non-critical loads before the demand interval peak is set. HVAC systems, hot water heaters, non-critical lighting, and industrial loads are candidates for automated demand response. We program load priority sequences that protect production and comfort loads while shedding lower-priority consumption to stay below a target demand threshold.
- • Real-time demand monitoring with threshold alerting
- • Automated load shedding and sequencing
- • HVAC pre-cooling and demand reset strategies
- • Lighting load control for demand reduction
- • Demand response program enrollment coordination
- • Demand charge savings calculation and verification
BMS & EMS INTEGRATION
Electrical monitoring and control systems are most effective when integrated with the facility's building management system (BMS) or energy management system (EMS). We wire and configure BACnet, Modbus, and proprietary protocol integrations between electrical monitoring equipment, HVAC controllers, lighting systems, and centralized facility management software — providing a single view of facility performance.
- • BACnet and Modbus protocol integration
- • HVAC demand reset and setpoint adjustment
- • Lighting controls integration for occupancy-based management
- • Fault detection and diagnostic (FDD) data feeds
- • Utility interval data integration with BMS
- • Centralized facility management software connection
POWER FACTOR CORRECTION
Facilities with significant motor loads, variable frequency drives, or electronic equipment often carry a power factor below the utility's target — typically 0.95. Low power factor triggers a utility power factor surcharge and increases current on conductors and transformers. We install automatic power factor correction capacitor banks that maintain power factor above the utility's threshold — eliminating surcharges and reducing conductor heating.
- • Power factor baseline measurement and analysis
- • Automatic capacitor bank sizing and specification
- • Harmonic filter specification where drives are present
- • Capacitor bank installation and commissioning
- • Power factor verification measurement after installation
- • Utility surcharge elimination documentation
